Asthma In Babies

Asthma In babiesAsthma can be really hard to diagnose in children under the age of 2. The reason behind this, is that they show little to no signs at all.

They will usually only have a cough which could be a symptom of many other things. They can also have excema and have a lot of allergies.

If your family has a history of asthma this can also be a strong indicator whether your baby has asthma or not. It s best if you believe your baby has asthma that you talk to your doctor immediately.

A doctor will do a detailed analyisis and determine if your child has asthma.

Allergies And Asthma

Asthma and AllergiesSo what do allergies have to do with asthma? Everything, asthma is a sensativity in the breathing tubes also called bronchial tubes.

Allergens cause the breathing tubes to become swollen and produce extra mucus. This in turn makes it harder for you to breathe.

If your baby is allergic to something then they should not be around the item they are allergic to. Sounds like common sense but If you don’t know what they are allergic to it can become a problem.

It is important to get your baby tested for allergies as soon as they are old enough for the testing. Some doctors will do testing at 1 years old but If your baby has bad allergies they will do it sooner.

Things like cigarette smoke can trigger an asthma attack as well as exercise like running around.

If your baby has asthma you will want to get with your doctor to come up with an asthma action  plan.

How Is Asthma Treated?

Asthma is most commonly treated with a rescue inhaler for fast relief, daily inhaler to stop attacks before they start( although they take much longer to work), and a nebuliser. A Nebuliser is a machine that makes liquids into a mist.

Most likely your doctor will prescribe a nebulizer as this is easiest for infants to use and some medicines are not suitable for children under the age of 2.

Is There A Cure For Asthma?

Is There A Cure For Asthma? As of right now, there is no cure. There are recent trials being conducted so perhaps in the near future there will be a cure or at least better medicine.

The newest treatment is kind of like dialysis. The blood is taken out the body and the IgE antibodies are removed. Then the blood is pumped back into the body.

It is thought that these a antibodies are what cause asthma symptoms like wheezing, shortness of breathe and coughing. The study showed a significant amount of relief from symptoms in 80% of participants.

Although not all children will, most children will outgrow asthma when they become an adult.
